文化財保護・博物館行政に尽力し、民具研究に従事した宮本馨太郎。仏製の9.5ミリカメラ、パテーベビーで現地調査を撮影し、作品化した映像民俗学者のパイオニアでもあります。 彼の作品を、いくつかのテーマに沿って取り上げます。 第6回のテーマは『映画教育への想い』。教材としての映像に新たな価値を見出し、試行錯誤した2作品。 【作品解説】 『八丈島の話』（1931年/14分/モノクロ・サイレント/4：3） 昭和6年に撮影した映像を、地理科教材として再編集した作品。手書きの地図を挿入し、「地勢」「風俗」「行政」「産業」の項目を上げて構成するなど、この時代に注目されるようになった「映画教育」を意識して編集されている。 『十和田湖』（1933年/11分/モノクロ・サイレント/4：3） 尋常小学校国語読本の十和田湖の記述に主に従って、教材として編集された作品。地理的な理解のため、具体的な数値を示したり、地図を動かしたりと、工夫がなされている。十和田湖の水の色の解説では、水の色をカラーで表現する徹底ぶり。
